A PUBLIC MEETING hosted by Richmond and Twickenham Friends of the Earth was held on Wednesday 25 May 2011 at Duke Street Church, Duke Street, Richmond TW9 1DH
 Speakers: Vince Cable, Business Secretary,MP for Twickenham, Zac Goldsmith MP for Richmond Park, Martyn Williams, Campaigner for Friends of the Earth, Paul Cook of Tearfund and Colin Butfield of WWF. Chair: Colin Hines A lively public meeting in Richmond voted 152-1 in favour of councils becoming local leaders in the race to reduce the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions. Vince Cable MP and Zac Goldsmith MP were debating climate change issues with representatives of Friends of the Earth, WWF, local development charity Tearfund and a large audience. When Chair Colin Hines asked for a show of hands, there was overwhelming support for the local MPs to back changes to the Energy Bill being debated in Parliament. The meeting called for the Bill to be strengthened to ensure every council does its bit to help tackle climate change.
