Feb 2011
On Tuesday 29th March 2011 we will be hosting a talk by Sarah Dickinson the West London Waste Authority’s Waste Minimisation Advisor. This will take place at our normal meeting venue, Langtons Bookshop Cafe in Church Street, Twickenham from 7.30pm and will be followed by drinks and discussions. West London Waste Authority is a partnership of six boroughs in West London and is the body that has to find some way of getting rid of everything that we chuck out. Although recycling and composting rates have risen in the last few years they are only around the national average of 40%. Richmond residents are still sending 54,402 tonnes a year to landfill or the waste incinerator in Colnbrook near Heathrow, whilst 38,821 tonnes are recycled or composted. West London Waste wants to see the overall amount it has to deal with greatly reduced. It now has a vastly improved website at www.westlondonwaste.gov.uk which sends out a very strong waste prevention message. |
