A consultation on the West London Waste Plan took place in March 2011 (see www.wlwp.net) and RTFoE put in a response. We expect to hear more in June. We’d like to hear your views.
Richmond only has two sites used for waste handling, the Central Depot in Twickenham and Townmead Road Recycling Centre in Kew, and the draft plan does not propose to add any more. It does however say that the existing sites are suitable for “redevelopment” but does not spell out what this means: it would have been more helpful if the consultation document could have outlined the options under consideration for each site. We would be likely to support a composting facility for green waste or anaerobic digestion facility for food waste in the Borough. The Council issued a rather alarmist press release saying “We know that this consultation is likely to be controversial, no-one wants to think they will have a huge waste processing plant on their doorstep, but we want people to understand what is happening” and this has already resulted in a number of worried residents contacting us. |
